Where: Next to the Library Book Return
Thanks to the Chapel Minsters led by Prof. Marcus Hong who included the library team at worship today with its theme of "Called to ... Truth-telling/Speak Truth." Librarians strive to be inclusive and point their patrons to sources f information that represent all points of view. Studies confirm that most Americans, especially Millennials, say libraries can help them find reliable, trustworthy information. The COVID19 global pandemic has disrupted libraries as mere brick mortar buildings and increased awareness that libraries are digital strongholds that facilitate remote access and engagement with trusted reliable information. At E.M. White library, a place with a strong residential campus based service focus, we continue to transform into a digital teaching library. At today's worship, members of the library team shared some inspiring quotes about what it means to be the "library." Here they are:
Quote shared by Bobi Bilz - Commitment to truth telling lays the groundwork for the openness and honesty that is the heartbeat of love. - bell hooks
Quote shared by Burton Callicott - The library card is a passport to wonders and miracles, glimpses into other lives, religions, experiences, the hopes and dreams and strivings of ALL human beings, and it is this passport that opens our eyes and hearts to the world beyond our front doors, that is one of our best hopes against tyranny, xenophobia, hopelessness, despair, anarchy, and ignorance. - Libba Bray
*Credits: Thanks to the Rev. Dr. Nicholson for his generous donation of brand new copies of his booklet "When the Worship is Over the Service Begins" and the mint condition books
NOTE from Prof. Hong: Here is the link to Monday’s chapel service, Called to Speak Truth: A Celebration of Theological Libraries Month. https://youtu.be/gQdgqnWLSQE. We want to note that, within the video itself, the information on the gift books for students is incorrect. The correct information can be found in the video description. May this nourish your spirit as we live out our calling(s) together in this community.
